How fishing works
- Cast your line and wait for a bite.
- During the cast, a power/luck meter appears. Releasing in the perfect or amazing zone gives you a better chance at rare fish.
- Reel the fish in and sell it to the merchant, or keep it for quests and collections.
Rod progression
The path most players follow at the time of writing:
| Step | Rod | How to get it |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Lava Rod | Free, found on Kohana Volcano |
| 2 | Lucky Rod | Bought from the rod shop |
| 3 | Chrome Rod / Hazmat Rod | Bought once you can afford them |
| 4 | Ghostfinn Rod | Lost Isle quest line |
| 5 | Element Rod | Temple quest line |
Prices, stats and quest steps change with updates, so check the in-game shop and quest NPCs.
Islands
New islands have new fish pools, and rarer fish usually need better rods. Once your rod can handle an island's fish, move on. Staying on the starting island too long is the most common way to fall behind.
Beginner tips
- Grab the free Lava Rod early. It's a big step up from the starter rod.
- Practice timing the meter. Perfect casts add up over hundreds of catches.
- Sell common fish often so you always have cash for the next rod.
- Use luck potions from codes at your best spot.
- Do the quest lines as soon as you can. The best rods come from quests, not the shop.
